POCSO Court, Kunnamkulam; Kerala High Court. An usthad at the Noorul Hidaya Madrassa was convicted of aggravated sexual assault of a nine-year-old student who came to his room for help with an online exam during the COVID lockdown, and sentenced to twenty years' rigorous imprisonment under POCSO. On 16 June 2026 the Kerala High Court dismissed his appeal, rejecting a defence claim that the case was a Sunni–Mujahid sectarian frame-up and holding the child's testimony sufficient.
