  1. 2026-05-05 · conviction and sentence; arrested as a fugitive

Poder Judiciário do Amapá. A 51-year-old pastor was sentenced to 12 years and 5 months in closed regime for the aggravated rape of a 10-year-old girl who attended his church in 2020; he evaded arrest for four years before being located living behind the church in the Perpétuo Socorro neighborhood of Macapá and taken into custody on 5 May 2026. Police said he used his ministerial position and offered candy and religious films to draw children to his room; a second child, aged 7, was also identified as a possible victim.

Documented coercion mechanisms

  • ministerial position and residence adjoining the church used to draw children into his room
  • grooming with sweets and 'religious films' framed as church activity
  • administration of contraceptive medication and threats to maintain silence
