Judge Sandhya Manoj Srivastava convicted kathavachak Govind Das (alias Govinda), of Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, and his associate Radhe, of Tikamgarh, of kidnapping and repeatedly raping a 16-year-old girl the pair encountered at a religious katha event Das conducted in February 2025. The girl was held roughly two to three months from 13 February 2025. Both were sentenced to life imprisonment under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Section 70(2) (gang rape) with a fine of ₹2,000 each, 20 years' rigorous imprisonment under POCSO Act Sections 5(l)/6 with a fine of ₹2,000 each, and 7 years' rigorous imprisonment under Section 96 (kidnapping) with a fine of ₹1,000 each, sentences to run concurrently.
