Commission to Inquire into Child Abuse (Ryan Commission), Ireland — statutory inquiry. The Ryan Report recorded the case of Peter Tyrrell, resident at St Joseph's Industrial School, Letterfrack, from 1924 to 1932, who alleged in a 1953 letter to the Christian Brothers' Provincialate that he had been sexually and physically abused by a Brother anonymised in the report as 'Br Perryn'. The Commission found the Congregation was aware of that Brother's history — an internal Visitation Report of 1940–41 had already documented concerns — yet refused to engage with or acknowledge Tyrrell's complaint. No prosecution ever occurred.
